The "Honoring Our Past - Creating Our Future" (HOPCOF) experience is a community-focused initiative that encourages a church community to reflect on its history and the narratives that shape its identity, continuity, and purpose.

Who facilitates HOPCOF?

Facilitators of this process are well-versed in the spiritual principles underlying HOPCOF, as it relates to both individual journeys and community evolution.

Why is community participation important?

The process not only focuses on the community's story but also connects participants to their personal narratives and struggles, emphasizing the multidimensional nature of the experience. This process helps community members understand how their stories can either empower or limit them, and it emphasizes that they are more than just their past.

How does history play a role in the process?

It highlights that the meanings attributed to historical events are more important than the events themselves, as they can either perpetuate dysfunction or clarify the community's authentic purpose.

How does this help people grow?

HOPCOF advocates that by recognizing the activity of God within their stories, the community can shift its perspective on life and see conflicts and difficulties as signs of disconnection from their inner wholeness.

What is the importance of a story?

By sharing personal stories, community members release pent-up emotions and begin the healing process. Participants can only share stories that related to them, no hearsay.

We learn by taking responsibility for past conditions which is a crucial aspect of healing and reconciliation.

How do we create our future?

When we can look at our past and find peace, a void is created of empty space for limitless possibilities of a future.  The information collected allows others to look at what has worked in the church and what has not while presenting new ideas and strategies for a common goal.
